Silk Road Fund Eyes Investment Opportunities in Pakistan’s Energy and Infrastructure Sectors
ISLAMABAD: The Silk Road Fund (SRF), a major Chinese investment institution, has expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s energy, infrastructure, manufacturing and other key sectors.
Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb held a meeting on Friday with an SRF delegation led by its Chairperson Zhu Jun to discuss potential investment avenues and ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
During the meeting, the finance minister briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s recent economic progress, highlighting improvements in fiscal discipline, external account stability, foreign exchange reserves and the overall macroeconomic outlook.
Aurangzeb said the government remained focused on maintaining macroeconomic stability while advancing structural reforms and promoting sustainable economic growth.
He emphasized that greater collaboration with leading international investment institutions such as the Silk Road Fund could help Pakistan mobilise capital, accelerate infrastructure development and expand productive economic activity.
The meeting also covered Pakistan’s ongoing privatisation programme, with discussions focusing on potential investment opportunities in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and other sectors of the economy.
The SRF delegation expressed interest in continued engagement with Pakistan and acknowledged the country’s progress in strengthening its macroeconomic fundamentals.
The potential involvement of the Chinese investment fund could provide an additional avenue for financing major infrastructure and energy projects, while supporting Pakistan’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment and deepen economic ties with China.
