He said climate change was not merely an environmental issue but was also causing substantial economic damage, affecting agricultural production, cities, infrastructure and people’s livelihoods.
The minister said the Sindh government was making efforts to address the impacts of climate change, but the challenge could not be tackled by the government alone due to limited public resources. He emphasised the need for effective strategies and sustained efforts to attract private investment.
Shah noted that companies operating in Pakistan could play an important role in developing the country’s climate-resilient economy. He stressed that climate-related initiatives must be translated into practical, investment-ready projects through stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors.
The British Deputy High Commissioner, Chairman Planning and Development Najam Ahmed Shah, and representatives of various companies also addressed the event.
