Power consumption totalled 1.03 trillion kWh in August, up 1.7 per cent year on year (YoY). Electricity load reached an all-time high of 1.56 billion kilowatts, exceeding the previous year’s peak by 49.69 million kilowatts.
By industry, Power consumed by the primary industry rose 2.7 per cent YoY to 16.9 billion kWh in August. Power use by the secondary industry increased 2.4 per cent to 612.4 billion kWh, while tertiary industry consumption reached 215.5 billion kWh, up 5.1 per cent, as per the NEA data.
Electricity consumption by the high-tech and equipment manufacturing sector reached 122.2 billion kWh in August, up 7.2 per cent.
Electricity consumption in the charging and battery swapping service sector increased 51.2 per cent in August to 17.2 billion kWh, while internet data services recorded a 37.9 per cent rise to 10.2 billion kWh.
In the first eight months of the year, China’s total power use reached 7.17 trillion kWh, up 4.3 per cent YoY. Power use by the primary industry rose 3.3 per cent to 104.6 billion kWh, secondary industry use increased 4.4 per cent to 4.53 trillion kWh, and tertiary industry consumption rose 7.1 per cent to 1.43 trillion kWh.
During the same period, electricity consumption by high-tech and equipment manufacturing climbed 9.3 per cent to 845.1 billion kWh. Residential power use increased 0.3 per cent to 1.11 trillion kWh.
The National Development and Reform Commission said in July that China had made major strides in power infrastructure in recent years, helping ensure stable electricity supply during peak periods and supporting economic and social development as well as basic needs, as reported by a state news agency.
