Climate Ministry Reviews Dawlance Shift to Ozone-Safe Refrigerator Technology

New-Dawlance

KARACHI: Federal Climate Secretary Awais Manzur Sumra visited Dawlance’s DPL1 manufacturing facility in Karachi to review the company’s conversion to cyclopentane technology for refrigerator and freezer insulation, the company said on Monday.

The September 24 visit was attended by officials from the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and the ministry’s National Ozone Unit.

According to the company, the conversion is being carried out with financial and technical assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the National Ozone Unit.

Cyclopentane, used in insulation foam, has zero ozone-depleting potential and a relatively low global warming potential compared with the substances it is replacing.

The visiting delegation was briefed on the environmental impact of refrigerants and the measures being adopted at Dawlance’s manufacturing facilities to support Pakistan’s efforts to phase down ozone-depleting substances and refrigerants with high global warming potential.

The briefing also covered initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency and conserving resources across the company’s manufacturing operations.

Dawlance Chief Executive Officer Umar Ahsan Khan said the company would continue investing in cleaner technologies and energy-efficient appliances as part of its broader manufacturing strategy.
