ISLAMABAD: The government has explained the procedure for availing a Rs100 per litre petrol subsidy under its fuel relief scheme.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Federal Ministers Atta Tarar and Ali Pervez Malik, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima said the scheme would provide relief to owners of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacity of up to 800cc.
Shaza Fatima said owners of two- and three-wheelers would be eligible for relief on 20 litres of petrol, while owners of vehicles up to 800cc would receive the subsidy on 30 litres of petrol.
She explained that the programme has been divided into two stages. In the first stage, eligible citizens have to register by sending an SMS from the SIM registered against their CNIC in the following format:
REG [CNIC number] [first letter of province] [vehicle registration date]
The SMS should be sent to 9771. For example, a citizen from Sindh would use S as the provincial code.
After successful registration, the consumer will need to send TOK to 9771 when going to purchase petrol. The token received in response must then be shown at the petrol station to avail the subsidy.
The minister urged citizens not to share their CNIC number or any other personal information with anyone. She clarified that the government would neither ask citizens for additional personal data nor charge any fee for the scheme.
She added that any issues or errors encountered during the implementation of the programme would be reviewed and corrected.
According to the government, Islamabad residents will be able to avail the petrol relief from midnight between September 14 and 15, while citizens across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will be eligible from midnight between September 16 and 17.
