ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by around 8 per cent for October, raising the cost of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder by Rs244.14 amid higher international prices.
According to an Ogra notification, the price of LPG has been fixed at Rs279.34 per kg for October, compared with Rs258.64 per kg in September, reflecting an increase of Rs20.68 per kg.
The price of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder has consequently risen to Rs3,296.23, from Rs3,052.09 last month.
Ogra determined the producer price of LPG, comprising 40pc propane and 60pc butane, at Rs238,041.49 per tonne for October, compared with Rs217,351.52 per tonne in September. The price includes an excise duty of Rs85 per tonne.
The producer price of an 11.8kg cylinder was calculated at Rs2,808.89, up from Rs2,564.75 in September. This includes the applicable petroleum levy and 18pc general sales tax.
For the consumer price, marketing, distribution and transportation margins totalling Rs35,000 per tonne were added to the maximum producer price, along with an additional 18pc GST on these margins.
As a result, Ogra fixed the maximum consumer-end LPG price at Rs279,341.49 per tonne, equivalent to Rs3,296.23 per 11.8kg cylinder, for October.
The revised prices will remain effective until October 31, 2026.
Ogra attributed the increase primarily to a rise in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), which increased by 9.9pc compared with September. The average dollar exchange rate, meanwhile, declined marginally by 0.12pc.
According to the regulator, these changes resulted in an increase of Rs244.14 per 11.8kg cylinder, or Rs20.68 per kg, ahead of the winter season when demand for LPG typically increases.
