LAHORE: More than 1.3 million young people have registered for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s e-bikes scheme, while over 607,000 applications have been submitted, according to an official statement.
The chief minister has directed the relevant authorities to complete the application process as soon as possible, reiterating that improving transport facilities for young people, particularly female students, and facilitating their access to education are among the government’s key priorities.
Under the scheme, 100,000 successful applicants will receive e-bikes through a balloting process. Eligible beneficiaries will pay easy monthly instalments of Rs3,000, while the Punjab government will bear the interest costs on the bikes.
On the chief minister’s instructions, successful female applicants will also be provided free driving training to help them travel safely and conveniently to their educational institutions.
Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government was committed to providing young people, particularly female students, with the resources and facilities needed to pursue their education and achieve their goals.
She added that the provision of e-bikes would make commuting easier for female students and help reduce their monthly transportation expenses.
The chief minister said every young man and woman in Punjab was important to her, adding that the government would continue taking steps to improve facilities and opportunities for the province’s youth.
