ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the coordinated efforts of federal and provincial governments and relevant institutions as the number of direct beneficiaries of Pakistan’s fuel subsidy scheme surpassed 10 million.

The prime minister also announced a national award for Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja in recognition of her contribution to implementing the initiative.

Speaking at a high-tea hosted to acknowledge the efforts of ministers and government officials, Shehbaz Sharif said the government would also present shields to other officials involved in executing the scheme and ensuring transparent outreach to beneficiaries.

He noted that the initiative had faced several challenges and concerns during the planning stage. However, coordinated efforts among the participating institutions had helped overcome obstacles and achieve significant progress.

The prime minister praised the collective efforts behind the scheme, highlighting the importance of intergovernmental coordination and effective implementation in extending financial assistance to millions of people affected by rising fuel costs.

The milestone marks a significant expansion in the programme’s reach as the government seeks to provide targeted relief to citizens facing pressure from higher petroleum prices and living expenses.
