*ISLAMABAD:* Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to travel to Karachi immediately and negotiate with oil refineries to secure a reduction in the price of locally produced diesel.

The directives were issued during a high-level meeting attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, and MNA Hamza Shehbaz.

Noting that a majority of the country’s diesel demand is met through domestic refineries, the Prime Minister said the Petroleum Minister should personally engage with refinery management to finalize negotiations at the earliest.

“Maximum possible relief must be passed on to the public without delay,” PM Shehbaz stressed, directing the Petroleum Ministry to take all necessary steps to lower the price of locally refined diesel.

The move comes as the government seeks to provide immediate relief to consumers by reviewing the pricing of domestically produced petroleum products.
