Sindh Government Accelerating Karachi’s Transport Development Projects: Sharjeel Memon
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the provincial Transport Department and other relevant government institutions are working rapidly to improve Karachi’s transport infrastructure and provide modern mobility facilities to citizens.
Memon said that carpeting work has been completed at several locations along University Road, while work is continuing to make the entire road fully motorable. He said the government has set a target to make University Road 100 percent motorable by September 15.
He added that work was also progressing rapidly on other sections of the Red Line BRT project, including the construction of bridges and culverts. Development work on the Yellow Line project is also continuing at a fast pace.
According to Memon, the Sindh government is taking extensive measures to expand modern public transport facilities in Karachi, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services. He said efforts were also underway to procure a larger number of steel double-decker buses for the city.
The minister said Sindh government taxis would also be made available to Karachi citizens soon, while agreements had already been signed for the procurement of 500 electric buses and orders had been placed. These EV buses are expected to become available to citizens in the near future.
He further said that bikes and scooters would also be provided to citizens soon as part of the government’s broader transport initiatives.
Memon stated that the Sindh government was undertaking large-scale initiatives in the transport sector and was also pursuing major development projects in energy and other sectors through public-private partnerships.
He said the provincial government’s priority was to provide citizens with modern infrastructure and quality public services, adding that development initiatives were being implemented on the ground rather than being limited to publicity.
