Thatta Cement, which is engaged in cement manufacturing and marketing and also owns Thatta Power (Private) Limited, said Pakistan’s EV market was witnessing rapid growth due to increasing consumer interest, the entry of international and domestic brands, and government incentives and tax concessions aimed at promoting electric mobility.
The company said its proposed business strategy would focus on the largely underserved mass-market segment rather than conventional niche or premium electric vehicles.
It plans to introduce affordable, compact and small electric vehicles designed to meet the mobility needs and purchasing power of a wider consumer base.
According to the company, the initiative is aimed at capitalising on emerging market opportunities, establishing an early presence in Pakistan’s evolving EV industry and gradually developing a sustainable business platform.
It also indicated the possibility of expanding into local vehicle assembly and other related activities in the future.
However, the company has not disclosed the proposed investment amount or provided a specific timeline for launching its EV operations.
Pakistan’s electric vehicle industry has been gaining momentum, supported by government policies, growing environmental awareness and rising fuel costs. However, the sector continues to face challenges, including limited charging infrastructure, financing constraints, affordability concerns and the need for a stronger local supply chain.
Industry observers consider the EV market to be at an early stage of development, requiring consistent government support, investment and infrastructure expansion to establish a sustainable electric mobility ecosystem.
