SYSTEM LOSS IN ELECTRICITY DROPS TO 12.19 PERCENT, NASRUL INFORMS JS

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 12, 2018 (BSS) – The system loss in electricity distribution and transmission has significantly brought down to 12.19 percent during the last fiscal year.

“We have successfully brought down distribution loss of the country’s whole electricity to 9.98 percent and transmission loss to 2.67 percent in 2016-17,” State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said, while replying to a starred question from opposition bench member Selim Uddin of Sylhet-5 in the Jatiya Sangsad today.

He said the electricity distribution loss was 14.33 percent and transmission was 3.06 percent in 2008-09 financial year, which was brought down to 13.49 percent and 3.08 percent in 2009-10.

The state minister informed the House that the system loss was brought down to a tolerable level due to the government’s right work plan, close monitoring and relentless endeavor of the organisations/companies concerned.

He said the government has undertaken various steps for bringing electricity system loss at tolerable stage. The steps are repair and replacement of the old and outdated power plants, construction of new power lines and sub-stations, identification of overloaded transformers, replacement and capacity enhancement, use of standard line and service drop, replacement of digital and repaid/smart meter instead of postpaid meter, ensure transparency on import and export of energy by installation of interface/grid meter, installation of automatic meter reading system, and others.
