SEPCO cuts off PPP lawmaker’s power connection

SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Zabardast Khan Mahar has moved court over cutting off electricity connection of his bungalow and issuance of a bill amounting to around Rs700,000 to him.

A team of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) conducted a raid on his bungalow in Khanpur Mahar town of Ghotki district on Friday to disconnect power supply to it.

The team also handed over the bill to those present inside.

Later, head of Sepco’s task force Aqeel Junejo, told the media that the electricity meter of the bungalow was found “stopped” while seven air-conditioners besides lights, fans and other electrical appliances were operative inside.

He said the power connection of the bungalow was cut off and a bill after assessing the power usage during an approximate period was issued to the consumer.

Contesting the Sepco team’s claims, Zabardast Khan Mahar argued that there was only one air-condition present in the bungalow and his current month’s bill was amounted to around Rs37,000 which proved that the meter was in running condition.

He said Sepco’s action was part of the political victimisation on the part of the federal government against PPP.

The MNA has also filed an application in the Ghotki district & sessions court stating that he was being harassed and blackmailed through Sepco.

The court has fixed the matter for July 27 and issued notices to the respondents.
