Hackers demand $38 million from K-Electric to recover data

KARACHI: Hackers have demanded K-Electric $38 million for returning its data.

Sources said that the hackers have given the KE a deadline of September 15 to pay $38 million if the company wants to take back its data. Failing to pay the money by Sept 15, the amount will be doubled i.e $76 million, they added.

The KE teams are seeking assistance from the international information security experts to retrieve the company’s data.

Earlier this week, the K-Electric’s computers were hacked by unknown hackers.

Sources said that the computers of K-Electric’s Information Technology Department were hacked by unknown hackers.

They said that the hackers had encrypted the data present in the computers.

The sources said that the links with the banks as well as K-Electric’s billing system has been affected due to the hacking.
