ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Asif Ali Zardari on Monday reviewed progress on Pakistan’s agreements with China, stressing timely implementation, stronger coordination and tangible outcomes across key sectors including energy, agriculture and infrastructure.
Chairing a high-level briefing at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi, the president directed departments to ensure close coordination with Chinese counterparts and establish effective monitoring mechanisms. He emphasised that the signed MoUs must translate into practical results through clear timelines, institutional alignment and sustained follow-up.
The meeting reviewed joint initiatives between Sindh and Chinese partners in areas such as energy, fertiliser production, agriculture, livestock development, environmental management and recycling technologies. President Zardari underscored the need to remove administrative bottlenecks, ensure transparency and facilitate investors to accelerate project execution.
The session was attended by senior officials including Murad Ali Shah, Faryal Talpur, Sharjeel Inam Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah, among others.
Separately, the president reviewed development plans at Cadet College Petaro in Jamshoro District, calling for modernisation of academic delivery and expansion of institutional capacity.
He highlighted the importance of digital learning, urging the integration of computers in classrooms and alignment of curricula with international standards. He also encouraged affiliation with reputable global institutions and proposed introducing agriculture as a subject alongside engagement of international faculty.
The briefing covered key initiatives including installation of a 1.2MW solar power system, implementation of an ERP system, infrastructure upgrades, scholarships through an endowment fund, and improved residential and academic facilities.
President Zardari also directed the formation of a committee to explore transitioning to advanced academic frameworks in place of conventional Matric and Intermediate systems.
Reaffirming the institution’s national importance, he emphasised merit, character-building and quality education as pillars of socio-economic progress, calling for sustained investment and coordinated efforts to maintain the college as a centre of excellence.
