KARACHI: Engro Vopak Terminal Limited (EVTL) and Engro Elengy Terminal Limited (EETL) have underscored the critical role of maritime terminal infrastructure in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security and supporting broader economic activity during an industry event held in Karachi.

The event brought together key stakeholders from Pakistan’s maritime and energy sectors, highlighting the importance of efficient terminal operations in ensuring uninterrupted supply chains for liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), chemicals, and other industrial inputs.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry attended as chief guest, alongside Chairperson of the Port Qasim Authority Rear Admiral (r) Syed Moazzam Ilyas and other industry representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said Pakistan’s maritime sector development is driven by strong collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, port authorities, and private terminal operators such as Engro, adding that sustained investment is essential for long-term sectoral growth.

He noted that nearly 90% of Pakistan’s trade is conducted through sea routes, making efficient port and terminal infrastructure vital for the country’s economic stability and energy security.

EETL currently contributes around 15% of Pakistan’s daily gas supply and has delivered significant savings through efficient LNG-based power generation. Meanwhile, EVTL handles nearly half of the country’s imported gas demand, ensuring smooth delivery of energy from port facilities to the national pipeline network.

Syed Ammar Shah, Chief Executive Officer of Engro’s terminal operations, said the company views its role as an enabler of national progress through safe, reliable, and efficient infrastructure management.

Beyond the energy sector, EVTL also manages industrial chemical handling for key industries such as textiles, construction, and agriculture, playing a critical role in Pakistan’s supply chain ecosystem and contributing to overall cost efficiencies in the economy.
