ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Thursday praised the State of Qatar for ensuring timely LNG supplies to Pakistan during a critical period marked by regional tensions, congestion in the Strait of Hormuz, and rising summer electricity demand.

The minister expressed Pakistan’s gratitude during a meeting with Qatar’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali bin Mubarak Al-Khater, held at the Petroleum Division in Islamabad.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral energy cooperation and enhancing coordination for future LNG supplies and strategic energy storage initiatives.

Ali Pervaiz Malik acknowledged Qatar’s continued support in facilitating LNG cargoes at a time when Pakistan was facing serious energy supply challenges due to disruptions linked to regional instability and increasing domestic power demand during the peak summer season.

He said Pakistan highly values Qatar’s cooperation, describing it as a reflection of the strong brotherly relations between the two countries.

The minister shared that he remained in continuous contact with Qatar’s Minister of Energy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, to closely coordinate LNG shipments. As a result of these efforts, two LNG cargoes successfully arrived in Pakistan.

He emphasized that Pakistan would continue close coordination with Qatar to ensure uninterrupted LNG supplies and secure additional gas volumes to meet the country’s growing energy needs.

“Pakistan’s preference is to secure supplies from friendly brotherly countries through necessary approvals, without risking any loss of life or property,” the minister stated.

During the meeting, Ambassador Ali bin Mubarak Al-Khater reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for Pakistan and assured full facilitation in addressing the country’s energy requirements.

He noted that Qatar’s support reflects the deep-rooted relationship between the leadership and people of both brotherly nations. The ambassador also appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts and constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Ali Pervaiz Malik observed that the prevailing regional conflict had highlighted the importance of strengthening national energy resilience. He revealed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government is formulating a comprehensive Energy Security Policy aimed at protecting Pakistan from external supply disruptions and future energy crises.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding Pakistan-Qatar energy cooperation and agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure stable, reliable, and uninterrupted LNG and energy supplies in the future.
