ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across the country may face another rise in monthly bills as power distribution companies (DISCOs) have requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve a positive fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs0.82 per unit for May 2026.
According to the petition, the requested increase of Rs0.8173 per unit is higher than the reference fuel cost of Rs8.4315 per unit already approved by the regulator. The adjustment is attributed to higher electricity generation costs during the month under review.
If approved, the additional charge will be recovered from consumers of all power distribution companies across the country and, under the uniform tariff policy, will also apply to consumers of K-Electric.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has scheduled a public hearing on June 30, 2026, to review the request before issuing a final decision.
Officials said the adjustment, if allowed, would be reflected in upcoming electricity bills, further increasing cost pressures on households already facing high utility expenses.
