ISLAMABAD: Details of taxes included in the current petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have been revealed, showing that a significant portion of fuel prices consists of government levies and duties.
According to Petroleum Division sources, 29 percent of the price of petrol per litre is made up of taxes. In monetary terms, Rs88.07 per litre is included as taxes in the petrol price.
The breakdown shows that petrol includes Rs19.32 per litre customs duty, Rs66.25 petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 climate support levy.
In the case of diesel, officials stated that 29 percent of the per-litre price also consists of taxes, with Rs91.15 per litre collected in the form of various levies.
The diesel tax structure includes Rs15.68 per litre customs duty, Rs72.97 petroleum levy, and Rs2.50 climate support levy.
It is worth noting that the government recently reduced fuel prices, cutting petrol by Rs74.28 per litre and diesel by Rs67.31 per litre. Following the revision, the new price of petrol stands at Rs299.50 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs311.47 per litre.
