Pakistan joins IEF as Momentum Builds for Global Energy Security Dialogue

IEF

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 09 July 2026 — The International Energy Forum today welcomed Pakistan as an IEF Member Country, adding to recent membership growth and strengthening the Forum’s role as the global home of energy dialogue.

Pakistan’s accession follows Benin and Sierra Leone’s entry into the Forum, reflecting growing momentum behind inclusive energy dialogue among producing, consuming and transit countries worldwide.

IEF Secretary General Jassim Alshirawi said Pakistan’s participation would enrich the Forum’s dialogue at a time of heightened uncertainty in global energy markets.

“We are very pleased to welcome Pakistan as an active participant in the International Energy Forum,” Mr Alshirawi said. “As a major emerging economy with growing energy needs, a young population and an important role in regional connectivity, Pakistan brings a valuable perspective that will add further depth to our dialogue on energy security, market transparency, and inclusive energy transitions.”

Federal Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, said: “Pakistan’s accession to the International Energy Forum reflects our commitment to constructive international engagement on energy issues of global importance. As a growing economy and an important regional energy corridor, Pakistan believes that energy security, affordability and sustainability are mutually reinforcing objectives that require greater dialogue, investment and cooperation. We look forward to making a meaningful contribution to the IEF and to working with fellow Member Countries to promote stable, transparent and resilient global energy markets.”

Pakistan joins the IEF as Member Countries prepare for the 17th International Energy Forum Ministerial, to be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh in October this year, with Italy and Nigeria as co-hosts.

Held under the theme “Energy Security and Shared Goals in a New Era,” the Ministerial will bring together ministers, senior officials, thought-leaders and CEOs to focus on the market, investment and policy conditions needed for secure, affordable and sustainable energy systems.

The Ministerial process will then continue from Riyadh to Rome, with Italy set to host the 18th International Energy Forum Ministerial in 2028.

Alshirawi said: “Recent events have shown that energy security is inseparable from global interdependence. At a time of uncertainty and geopolitical fragmentation, inclusive dialogue is essential to bring different perspectives into the same room, build shared understanding, and help sustain cooperation, market confidence, and collective energy security.”

The IEF supports better-informed decision-making by enabling ministers to engage beyond familiar policy circles and deepen their understanding of different priorities and realities. Its Industry Advisory Council reinforces this dialogue with practical market, investment, technology and operational insight from across the global energy value chain.
