New-IMF

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has further increased the burden of petroleum levy on consumers after raising the levy on petrol and high-speed diesel in line with conditions set by the International Monetary Fund.

According to sources, the government has increased the petroleum levy on both petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs13.91 per litre.

Following the increase, the petroleum levy on petrol has been fixed at Rs117.41 per litre, while the levy on high-speed diesel (HSD) has been set at Rs42.60 per litre.

Sources said the levy on petrol was raised from Rs103.50 per litre to Rs117.41 per litre, whereas the levy on high-speed diesel increased from Rs28.69 per litre to Rs42.60 per litre.

Officials further revealed that the government has also fulfilled another IMF-related condition by imposing a combined petroleum levy of Rs160 per litre on petrol and high-speed diesel.

The latest increase is expected to add further financial pressure on consumers already facing rising fuel and transportation costs across the country.
