Karachi Policymakers, industry leaders, energy experts and corporate executives from across Pakistan will gather in Karachi on 14 July for the 2nd Sindh Energy Diversity Conference, where discussions will focus on strengthening the province’s energy security through indigenous resources, renewable energy, energy storage, net metering and clean mobility solutions.
Organised by Energy Update, the day-long conference will be held at a hotel in Karachi, bringing together senior representatives from the federal and Sindh governments, the corporate sector, development partners and leading energy companies to deliberate on the country’s evolving energy landscape.
The inaugural session will begin with a welcome address by M. Naeem Qureshi, Chairman of the Sindh Energy Diversity Conference and Managing Editor of Energy Update. A keynote address from Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh Minister for Local Government. The conference will be formally inaugurated by Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, Federal Minister for the Board of Investment, who will attend as the chief guest.
The first technical session, titled “Coal and Indigenous Resources in a Transitioning World,” will examine the strategic role of Thar coal and other indigenous energy resources in Pakistan’s energy mix. Shahab Qamar Ansari, Secretary of the Sindh Energy Department, will present an overview of Thar coal development, while Aamir Iqbal, Chief Executive Officer of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), and Ahmad Sadiq of Fauji Fertilizer Company will share industry perspectives on resource development and utilisation.
The second session, “Renewable Energy & Storage: Scaling the Future”, will highlight the rapid expansion of renewable energy technologies, battery storage solutions and private-sector investments. Aslam Soomro, Special Secretary of the Sindh Energy Department, will present an overview of renewable energy development in Sindh. The session will also feature presentations and addresses by representatives of ITEL Energy, Reon Energy, Inverex Solar Energy and Gul Ahmed Energy, focusing on technological innovation and the growing role of solar and storage solutions in Pakistan’s energy transition.
The post-lunch programme will include presentations on emerging issues such as net metering, the future of distributed energy and developments in the power sector. Experts, including Moin Fudda, former Consul General of New Zealand and a recognised net metering specialist; Aamir Salim of Petroserv OGDCL; and Mudassir Zuberi of K-Electric, will share their insights on evolving opportunities and challenges.
A major highlight of the conference will be a panel discussion on “Electric Vehicles and Clean Mobility”, to be chaired by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Senior Minister for Transport. Moderated by Yasir Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of Climate Action Plan, the discussion will bring together experts from the public and private sectors to examine the future of electric mobility, sustainable transport, charging infrastructure and climate-resilient urban mobility.
The conference will conclude with remarks by Sindh Governor Syed Nehal Hashmi, followed by a vote of thanks from Ruqiya Naeem, Director of Administration and Finance of Energy Update, before the closing ceremony.
The event is expected to provide an important platform for dialogue between government institutions, policymakers, investors and industry stakeholders on accelerating energy diversification, promoting investment, strengthening indigenous energy resources and advancing Pakistan’s transition towards a more sustainable, resilient and secure energy future.
