KARACHI: Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is in discussions with its local partner, Mega Motor Company (MMC), to introduce its next-generation ultra-fast charging technology in Pakistan, aiming to make electric vehicles more practical and accelerate the adoption of new energy vehicles.
Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co. Ltd. and General Manager of its Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, told Business Recorder that the company was exploring how the technology could be introduced to Pakistani customers in collaboration with MMC.
According to Liu, BYD’s Mega Flash Charging technology is powered by its second-generation Blade Battery and is designed to significantly reduce charging times, making electric vehicles more convenient for everyday use.
The latest charging system has been developed for next-generation vehicles equipped with the new battery platform. Existing BYD vehicles will also remain compatible with the charging infrastructure, although their charging speeds will vary depending on the vehicle’s capabilities.
Liu said the technology’s introduction in Pakistan would depend on infrastructure readiness, consultations with relevant stakeholders and future product planning.
BYD’s Pakistan Manufacturing Plant Nears Launch
Discussing the company’s manufacturing project in Pakistan, Liu said the plant was approaching its planned launch in the second half of 2026.
The facility will be BYD’s sixth manufacturing plant outside China, with an initial annual production capacity of 25,000 vehicles, which could eventually be scaled up to 50,000 units.
The executive said further details about the project would be announced in due course.
The manufacturing facility is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs and support sustainable industrialisation in Pakistan. According to Liu, the project is also projected to help avoid an estimated 165,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by 2034.
The proposed introduction of ultra-fast charging technology, alongside the development of local manufacturing capacity, reflects BYD’s broader efforts to expand its presence in Pakistan’s growing new energy vehicle market. However, the deployment timeline for the charging system will depend on infrastructure development and further discussions with local stakeholders.
