KATHMANDU: Nepal has suffered an estimated $2.56 billion (387.5 billion Nepalese rupees) in damage to property, housing and infrastructure following catastrophic floods last week, according to the country’s disaster management authorities.
Dharma Raj Upreti, chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said the estimated cost of early recovery over the next four months would be around $52.6 million (7.95 billion Nepalese rupees).
The funds would be required to repair roads, establish temporary shelters and restore essential services, including drinking water and electricity, as the country begins its recovery from the devastating floods.
