The development follows discussions between representatives of the company and Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik regarding potential partnerships and long-term cooperation in Pakistan’s mineral sector.

Weir, a global engineering group employing more than 11,000 people across over 50 countries, provides advanced equipment, technology and services for mining and mineral processing operations worldwide. Its expertise in mining technology could support Pakistan’s efforts to modernise mineral extraction, improve operational efficiency and develop its mineral resources.

The company has expressed interest in establishing long-term business ties with Pakistan and is scheduled to participate as a Platinum Sponsor at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) 2026, scheduled for November 12–13 in Islamabad.

Weir Group CEO Andrew Neilson is also expected to join the company’s delegation at the forum, providing an opportunity for engagement with government officials, industry stakeholders and potential local partners.

The government has assured support to facilitate the company’s exploration of business opportunities in Pakistan’s mineral industry, reflecting its broader efforts to attract international investment and technical collaboration.

Pakistan possesses significant mineral resources, including copper, gold and other critical minerals, which offer considerable potential for economic growth, exports and industrial development. However, unlocking this potential requires substantial investment, modern technology, efficient mining practices and international partnerships.

Weir’s potential engagement with Pakistan could contribute to the development of a more technologically advanced mining sector, particularly through improved mineral processing, equipment solutions and operational efficiency.

The Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 is expected to provide a platform for international investors, mining companies and policymakers to explore partnerships and investment opportunities in the country’s mineral resources.
