KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday announced that a large number of electric and double-decker buses will be introduced in Karachi this year, marking a major expansion of the city’s public transport network.

In a statement issued to the media, the senior minister said the provincial government is rapidly working to modernise Karachi’s transport system. He added that following the success of the Peoples Bus Service, the government is now expanding its fleet with environmentally friendly electric buses and modern double-decker vehicles, which will be deployed across multiple routes in phases.

Sharjeel Memon said the initiative reflects the Sindh government’s broader vision to transform urban mobility in Karachi and improve the quality of public transportation for citizens. He emphasised that the introduction of electric buses will not only reduce environmental pollution but also provide affordable, efficient, and comfortable travel options for commuters.

He further stated that the addition of double-decker buses will enhance the city’s transport landscape and contribute to a more modern urban identity. According to him, the project is part of a long-term effort to reshape Karachi into a better-connected and more sustainable metropolis.

The senior minister said these developments represent more than just an increase in bus numbers, calling it a “new beginning” in Karachi’s journey toward a modern public transport system.
