ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has significantly increased domestic oil production in recent months, with output rising from 32,500 barrels per day to 41,000 barrels per day, according to the company’s Managing Director Ahmed Hayat Lak.
Speaking about the country’s energy reserves and production capacity, Ahmed Hayat Lak revealed that OGDCL has the capability to further increase oil production beyond 43,000 barrels per day.
He stated that before the recent tensions in the Middle East, OGDCL’s nationwide oil production stood at around 32,500 barrels per day. However, due to intensified efforts to boost domestic oil and gas production, the company has successfully increased output to 41,000 barrels daily.
The OGDCL chief further disclosed that Pakistan currently possesses sufficient oil and gas reserves for the next 17 years, compared to only 12 years of reserves recorded during 2022-23.
He noted that oil and gas reserves across the country are increasing rapidly, with new discoveries continuously being made in different regions.
Referring to a major recent breakthrough, Ahmed Hayat Lak said that the X-1 well discovered at the Barghazai site in Kohat last month marked the largest oil and gas discovery in Pakistan’s history. According to him, the discovery alone accounts for nearly 10 percent of Pakistan’s total crude oil production.
