Thar Coal proving game changer, contributes 14pc to power generation; 1,100 new schools under construction in Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the Sindh government is going to hold an investment conference in Shanghai on 15 October, while a high-level delegation is leaving for China under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Sindh.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Wednesday, he said during the visit efforts will be made to promote B2B and G2G investment. Promoting investment in Pakistan with the cooperation of China will create new opportunities for the youth and provide employment, he added.

Sharjeel Memon said after Karachi and Islamabad, the third event of Sindh Vision will now be held in Sukkur at the end of November, in which people belonging to different schools of thought, national and international journalists, diplomats and others will be invited. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also attend the event being held under the Information Department. He said Sukkur is currently a role-model district of Sindh where work has been carried out in every sector.

Talking about Thar Coal, the Senior Minister said Thar Coal is proving to be a game changer for Pakistan and has an important role in the country’s electricity generation. Fourteen percent of Pakistan’s electricity generation is being obtained from Thar coal, which has also resulted in savings of foreign exchange. Investment of approximately one billion dollars has already been made in Thar coal projects, he said.

Regarding the education sector, he said 1,100 new schools are being constructed in Sindh in one year. Forty-seven new schools will be completed by December, while 800 new schools will be ready before March.

Sharjeel Memon said PPP will not have any kind of engagement with PTI in the elections and PTI should focus on its mistakes. He said it is regrettable that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has targeted the leadership of PPP.

He said the biggest problem of KP at present is terrorism and five out of seven divisions of the province are in the grip of terrorism. He termed the situation proof of the failure of the provincial government.

He said during PTI’s tenure a soft approach was adopted towards the Taliban and despite incidents of terrorism, no lesson was learnt. PTI will have to answer for its policy of supporting Taliban, he added.
