ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Germany have signed a technical cooperation agreement worth €40.5 million to implement nine development projects aimed at strengthening collaboration in climate resilience, renewable energy, and social protection sectors, according to the Economic Affairs Division (EAD).

The agreement seeks to deepen bilateral development cooperation through targeted technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives across Pakistan.

Under the arrangement, Germany’s implementing agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will support the execution of nine new development projects focusing on sustainable development priorities.

The agreement was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and German Ambassador Ina Lepel during a ceremony attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and representatives of the German Embassy.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary Economic Affairs appreciated Germany’s continued support for Pakistan’s socio-economic development, noting that both countries have maintained a strong development partnership since 1961 based on mutual trust and cooperation.

He added that Germany remains one of Pakistan’s key development partners, with the current active bilateral portfolio reaching approximately €550 million.

German Ambassador Ina Lepel reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in addressing key global challenges, including climate change, energy transition, and social vulnerability through practical and result-oriented cooperation.

She expressed confidence that the newly launched projects would deliver tangible benefits to communities across Pakistan and further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
